Homophones 3*

Objective 

To distinguish between homophones, ie words with common pronunciations but different spellings, eg eight, ate; grate, great; rain, rein, reign. 

These words sound the same but have different spellings and meanings. Choose the correct word.

 

  1.     For breakfast, some people eat (cereal, serial).    
 
  2.     You are not (aloud, allowed) to run in the corridors.    
 
  3.     The first (seen, scene) was set in the garden.    
 
  4.     We go into the playground at (brake, break) time.    
 
  5.     Mum said she wanted some (piece, peace) and quiet.    
 
  6.     You need (flour, flower) to make bread.    
 
  7.     A lion has a big (main, mane).    
 
  8.     I hoped to get all my spellings (write, right).    
 
  9.     We all (red, read) the story together.    
 
10.     The wind (blue, blew) the balloon far away.
