The book begins with four children being sent to stay with their uncle. One day, whilst playing hide and seek, one of the children, Lucy, goes through the back of the wardrobe to the
world of Narnia.
She is taken to tea by a faun, called Mr Tumnus, who tells her that Narnia has been taken over by the White Witch and it is always winter there, but never Christmas. Lucy is
by the tale and can't wait to get back to tell the others.
Edmund, her brother, also finds his way to Narnia, but he is
by the White Witch, who feeds him on Turkish Delight. This makes him believe that the Witch is a Queen and she tells him that he can become a King in Narnia when he brings his brother and sisters back with him.
When Lucy gets back home, she can hardly wait to tell the others what she has seen and heard. However, they don't
her, including Edmund, who is lying about it.
The children do get back to Narnia, eventually and they are greeted by the
family who tell them that the White Witch has taken Mr Tumnus.
Edmund
away to find the Witch on his own.
The other children go with Mr Beaver to try and
the faun.
They have lots of
along the way, with talking animals and other mythical creatures
They
meet Aslan the lion, who helps them in their fight against the White Witch.
