Callum's Maths Adventure

All this page is devoted to Callum and his maths adventures. Can you help him along the way?

  1. Callum's mum gave him £2.80 and he wanted to buy 2 magazines, one cost 95p and the other cost 75p. How much change would he have if if he did buy them both?

  2. With the change Callum bought some sweets, he went to the park and saw 3 of his friends. He gave them 5 each and had 7 left for himself. How many did he have at the beginning?

  3. On his way home he counted 8 red cars, 6 blue ones and 2 white ones. He knew that each car had 4 wheels so he worked out how many altogether. What is the answer he got?

  4. When Callum got home his mum asked him to get 24 new potatoes because she was going to cook the meal. If everybody had 4 potatoes each how many people would be eating the meal?

  5. After his meal Callum wanted to watch a programme on television which started at 6.45 pm but his mother said that he had to practice his piano for half an hour. What time did he start to practice so that he could watch the programme at 6.45 pm?

  6. After the programme he had a bath and then read for 45 minutes. If he turned his light out at 9.10 pm what time did he start to read?

  7. The next day Callum wanted to go to see his grandma. He knew that if he went on his bike it would take him 17 minutes but if he walked it would take him twice as long. How long would it take him if he walked?

  8. At his Grandma's house Callum did some weeding for her in the garden. He had a pile of 14 dandelions, 23 buttercups and 38 daisies. How many weeds altogether?

  9. For lunch Callum had 3 sandwiches, Grandma had 1 less than Callum and Grandpa had twice as many as he. How many sandwiches altogether?

10. When Callum got home that afternoon he found that 1 of his friends had left a message for him. It was asking him to a party on the 17th which was on a Saturday. If he had 10 days to wait, what day did he get the message?
